Beanstack is back as our summer reading platform again this summer! The Beanstack Summer Reading Challenge runs from June 1 to July 31, 2023. We challenge all students to read 20 minutes every day and set a goal to read at least 15 hours this summer. Join the Summer Reading Challenge and keep track of your reading on the Beanstack site here.
Students may also login with the Beanstack app! The Summer Reading Challenge is optional, however the Library Learning Commons will be giving prizes to our top readers and will host several random prize drawings. The more badges you earn, the better your odds of winning will be. We're famous for our Prize Packs, Prize Drop, Prize Wheel & Prize Cart...you know you want a chance to experience those! For more information open the Cobb Summer Reading website here and the Cobb County Public Library information here. Follow us on Instagram @mcclure_llc for updates, book recommendations, and maybe even some fun prizes. @mcclure_llc **Paper logs will not be accepted** eBooks & AudiobooksDon't forget that while the McClure LLC might be closed for the summer, Sora and the Cobb County Public Library are available for all your reading needs! Suggested Reading ListsParents, we know that we all mean well, but as author Neil Gaiman said, “Well-meaning adults can easily destroy a child’s love of reading. Stop them reading what they enjoy or give them worthy-but-dull books that you like … [and] you’ll wind up with a generation convinced that reading is uncool and, worse, unpleasant.”
Summer is your child’s vacation; encourage them to read for pleasure because they often don’t have time to during the school year! Researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center have even found that students who were allowed to choose at least some of their summer reading materials were more likely to maintain or improve their reading levels as compared to those who were not given any choice. That said, we do have a couple of lists you might want to refer to, but they are merely suggestions. Please keep in mind that some content may be too mature for younger readers and therefore parental discretion is advised. See your public librarian for alternate titles, series, and authors as needed.
